Who is Nirmala Sitharaman?
Nirmala Sitharaman is an Indian politician and current Minister of Finance and Minister of Corporate Affairs in the Government of India. She is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and a member of the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of the Indian parliament.
Nirmala Sitharaman Birthday and Education
Sitharaman was born on August 18, 1959, in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, India. She obtained a bachelor’s degree in economics from Seethalakshmi Ramaswamy College in Tiruchirappalli and a master’s degree in economics from Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi.
Prior to entering politics, Sitharaman worked as a research officer at the Agricultural Engineers Association and as a senior manager at Price Waterhouse. She also served as a member of the National Commission for Women and as the director of the Council for Advancement of People’s Action and Rural Technology.
Sitharaman was first elected to the Rajya Sabha in 2016 and has since served in various cabinet positions, including Minister of Defence and Minister of Commerce and Industry. In 2019, she became the second woman to hold the position of Minister of Finance in India.
In addition to her political career, Sitharaman is known for her work on economic issues and for her efforts to promote women’s empowerment.
